Agave Responsable Social (ARS) is a certification mark created and administered by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) to strengthen responsible commercialization and support traditional producers, ensuring that the production and commercialization of agave are carried out under principles of equity, social responsibility, and sustainability, promoting the formalization, inclusion, and well-being of producers and agricultural workers, as well as the development of their communities.
As a result of this commitment undertaken by the Tequila agroindustry, the ARS certification recorded the commercialization of more than 200 thousand tons of agave, consolidating itself as a strategic mechanism that generates greater certainty for producers, strengthens transparent commercial relationships, and contributes to the organization of the market through formal purchase and sale schemes, reducing intermediation and promoting more equitable conditions for the agricultural sector.
Through this model, priority is given to traceability, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility, aligning the Tequila agroindustry with international standards and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria, thereby strengthening the global competitiveness of the category and consolidating its competitive advantage over other spirits.
Beyond the volume commercialized, the impact of the program lies in the construction of a model that dignifies agricultural activity, provides stability to thousands of producing families, and favors generational continuity in agave-growing communities by encouraging responsible practices and sustainable commercial relationships in the long term.
Roberto Ciprés Cruces, President of the Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT), stated that “The volume achieved through ARS confirms that the Tequila agroindustry is committed to long-term solutions that strengthen the agricultural sector and provide greater market stability. It is not only about figures, but about a structural change that generates trust, commercial certainty, and sustainable development for the entire productive chain.”
The success of the program is reflected in the participation of 1,535 registered traditional producers, of whom 1,426 have completed sales under this scheme. Likewise, the confidence of the industrial sector is evident, with 164 tequila companies currently receiving agave through ARS, integrating this certification as a key tool for social responsibility and regulatory compliance.
The ARS platform thus contributes not only to regional economic development, but also to the consolidation of a transparent and socially responsible production model that strengthens the continuity and international recognition of Tequila as an agroindustry aligned with global best practices.
