The Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT) announced today its official accession to the Global Standards Coalition (GSC) of the International Alliance for Responsible Drinking (IARD), a global initiative that brings together more than 100 organizations committed to reducing the harmful use of alcohol and promoting moderation.

The GSC Coalition brings together leading companies in the alcoholic beverages sector, digital platforms, retailers, advertising agencies, sports bodies, and regulatory entities to share best practices and strengthen global standards of responsibility.

Training on responsible consumption

As the representative of one of Mexico’s most emblematic industries, the CNIT joins this global effort, reaffirming its commitment to preventing the sale and advertising of alcoholic beverages to minors, as well as promoting informed and moderate consumption among adults, an essential pillar that aligns with the Chamber’s strategic priorities to foster responsible alcohol intake. The CNIT will also provide training to its member companies regarding the alliance, encouraging informed marketing and commercialization practices.

“In the tequila industry, we take very seriously the responsibility of promoting moderate consumption and, of course, protecting minors, as well as respecting and supporting those who choose not to consume alcohol. This alliance with the IARD and other international organizations strengthens our conviction that it is possible to generate positive change through collaboration and collective action,” said Ana Cristina Villalpando, Director General of the CNIT.

Standards in Action

During the launch of the GSC, the IARD also presented its new report, Standards in Action, which compiles concrete practices implemented by its members in three key areas:

1. Promoting informed choices and moderation among adults

2. Preventing underage drinking

3. Reducing the harmful use of alcohol

The report serves as a reference tool for companies, regulators, and organizations interested in raising responsibility standards worldwide.

Since its creation in 2023, the GSC Coalition has grown rapidly, becoming a global benchmark for joint action. Today, with the CNIT’s accession, the tequila industry joins the call of the UN Declaration on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), committing to eliminate all marketing directed at minors and to strengthen self-regulation standards in support of public health. It is important to note that the IARD is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the harmful use of alcohol and promoting understanding of responsible drinking. The Chamber participates in these alliances as one of its guiding pillars as an industry and as a sector.
