• Minister of Economy Marcelo Ebrard announced that the Government of Mexico will work throughout 2027 to remove trade barriers limiting Tequila exports and strengthen the spirit's international competitiveness.
• The Chamber of the Tequila Industry unveiled the "Made in Mexico" Commemorative Institutional Bottle, a special edition that brings together, in a single bottle, the essence and unity of the entire category.
The Government of Mexico announced that throughout 2027 it will work to eliminate the restrictions that currently represent trade barriers to Tequila exports, as part of a strategy to strengthen the international presence of the country's most iconic spirit and diversify its export destinations.
The announcement was made by Minister of Economy Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon during the first official celebration of National Tequila Day, where the Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT), together with the Ministry of Economy, unveiled the "Made in Mexico" Commemorative Institutional Bottle, a special edition crafted from voluntary contributions by tequila-producing companies that chose to share their Tequila to create a blend representing, beyond individual brands, a common origin, shared quality, and a collective commitment to Mexico.
During his remarks, the Minister of Economy stated that, in addition to addressing the tariff-related challenges facing the category in various markets, the government will promote initiatives to strengthen Tequila's international presence and expand export opportunities.
The event was attended by Dr. Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, Minister of Economy; Dr. Vidal Llerenas Morales, Director General of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI); Mr. Roberto Ciprés Cruces, President of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry; Eng. Aurelio López Rocha, President of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT); as well as representatives of Mexico's tequila industry.
During the event, CNIT President Roberto Ciprés Cruces emphasized that the Institutional Bottle is the result of a shared vision embraced by the entire category.
"This blend is the result of the trust, generosity, and shared vision of an industry that understood that when the purpose is greater than our differences, collaboration becomes our greatest strength," he said.
A Vision of Mexico in Every Bottle
The "Made in Mexico" Commemorative Institutional Bottle represents far more than a blend of Tequila. It is a symbol of an entire industry's ability to work together and present to the world a shared identity founded on quality, authenticity, and innovation.
More than identifying a product's country of origin, the Made in Mexico distinction recognizes the talent of the Mexican people, the strength of the nation's production chains, and the ability of its industries to drive economic development, compete in international markets, and create opportunities for thousands of families.
"To speak of Tequila is to speak of Mexico. It is to speak of our roots, of the ancestral knowledge that preserves its essence, and of an industry that has successfully embraced innovation, science, and technology to strengthen its quality and project itself into the future," stated Ciprés Cruces.
The presentation of this commemorative edition reflects the tequila industry's commitment to initiatives that strengthen domestic production, foster innovation, and generate greater added value for products proudly made in Mexico.
Tequila: A Driver of Economic Development
Today, Tequila is one of Mexico's most internationally recognized products and the only spirits category to record growth over the past year, increasing by 1.2%. It is present in more than 120 countries, with exports exceeding 400 million liters annually.
Behind every bottle lies a value chain that includes agave growers, distilleries, suppliers, transport companies, and thousands of families whose work enables Tequila to remain one of Mexico's foremost ambassadors around the world.
The initiatives announced by the Government of Mexico to strengthen the category's international competitiveness represent an opportunity to expand Tequila's presence in new markets and reinforce the global leadership of an industry that generates investment, employment, innovation, and economic development for the country.
With the presentation of the "Made in Mexico" Commemorative Institutional Bottle, the tequila industry reaffirms its commitment to continue working hand in hand with the Government of Mexico to strengthen the sector's competitiveness and proudly carry the name of Mexico to every corner of the world.
